The club was founded in 1970 by a small group of 14 friends intending to rally together for a few weekends a year. These founder members financed the foundation of the club through their own pockets. However as hardened caravanners they soon were rallying each weekend. By word of mouth about this new small friendly club the membership soon grew and saw the first members joining in March 1970. The name Dunelm was chosen as at that time the majority of members were from the County Durham Area and therefore so as not to be confused with larger clubs we chose the old name for Durham. The objectives of the club were always to keep membership low so that you would soon get to know other members and over the years we have maintained a membership of about 60. 37 years on and we still have some members who were part of the original membership. Our membership varies in ages from members with young families to our oldest member who is 85!! The format for rallies has changed over the years and members are free to do what they want over the weekend. We usually get together for a barbecue on the Saturday and a coffee morning on the Sunday. At the Bank Holiday rallies we try to organise different events weather permitting! We run other events during the year, in the past we have arranged trips to Amsterdam and a get togethers in January/February, we have also had 4 very successful holiday rallies in France. Over the 37 years the club has had a lot of fun and brought together many friends. |
